SO the NatWest is now to close in Haxby, following the HSBC a few years ago (The Press, March 24).
A drop in users is always the reason; in your article a spokesman says the drop is 36 per cent since 2011. So 64 per cent voted to keep using the bank, but that doesn’t matter?
In a well-ordered, sensible society, a small town like Haxby probably does only need one bank. One bank building that could deal with paying in/cashing for all the banks.
Banks are perfectly capable of running a clearing house in co-operation for their own benefit, but the idea of co-operating for their customers seems to be a non-starter.
