DOES City of York Council have a Brexit strategy?
I have been trying to find out whether City of York Council has a Brexit strategy, and have come to the conclusion that it does not.
The word Brexit is completely absent from their website.
Cllr David Carr, the council leader, tells me they have “undertaken an analysis of Brexit risks and opportunities for the city”.
But when I asked what these “risks and opportunities” might be, he replied: “Sorry, I do not have this list to hand.”
But all is not lost. I am hoping that Cllr Carr will soon be able to lay his hand on this rather important bit of paper, and may even be able to send us a statement for the Brexit discussion meeting in York this Saturday.
This is an open meeting where all views will be respected.
It is at Priory Street Centre (YO1 6ET) and starts at 11.45am.
It will be addressed by Sir Vince Cable, who attended Nunthorpe School, Rachael Maskell MP, and many others.
Julian Sturdy MP and David Carr have also been invited, as has the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
John Bibby, Straylands Grove, Heworth, York
