A CAMPAIGN to raise awareness of water safety at York St John University raised £140 for charity with a sponsored 24-hour row.
Katie Irving, Vice President of Welfare and Diversity with York St John University’s student union, said the event was done in memory of Megan Roberts, whose mother Jackie also took part in the Rowathon, and a tree planting was held on Thursday and watched by her family.
She said: “The loss of Megan happened before any of the current students were here, that’s why this campaign is important to keep the memory of her alive at YSJ and to remind people of the dangers of the river and to stay safe on a night out.
“The students were enthusiastic during the Rowathon and we had lots of people inquiring to what we were doing which is good.”
