A JUDICIAL review hearing WILL be held to decide on the legality of a key decision in York's Community Stadium project.

The hearing is likely to be early next year and is will further prolong the long-delayed project.

The Press revealed in August that cinema chain Vue, which has a venue at Clifton Moor, was mounting the legal challenge over the council's approval of enlarged plans for a rival cinema next to the stadium at Monks Cross.

A council spokeswoman said on Thursday  night: "It has been confirmed that a judge has concluded that the community stadium judicial review request can go forward for a full judicial review hearing.

"The council expects this to be considered early in the New Year. The council is not currently in a position to provide further details.

York Press:

"However, we have made clear we are fully committed to delivering the community stadium and leisure facility project, which will provide a wide-range of facilities, and we are continuing to work with our longstanding partners to build the best leisure, sport and health offer for the city."

Cllr Nigel Ayre, executive member for leisure and culture, reiterated the council's commitment to the project and said problems had been left by the previous council administration.
