CHILDREN and teachers have been celebrating after their school received top marks in a Government inspection.
Youngsters and staff at Naburn Primary School, York, have been in high spirits after their school was graded "outstanding" - the highest category - by Ofsted inspectors.
The good news coincided with the Arts Council granting the school an Artmark, an award which recognises Naburn Primary's commitment to music, dance and drama as well as other artistic activities.
Head teacher Rupert Griffiths said: "This is fantastic news. It's a reflection of how hard the staff, parents and children have worked since the last inspection in 2002, when we also did really well. Being awarded with the Artmark was also brilliant, because music, dance and drama are really important to the school."
He said he was delighted with the way the school has been developing over the last few years, including its evolving partnership with a school in Ghana which, he said, had "broadened the horizons" of the pupils.
