A COMMUNITY centre has celebrated its 30th birthday following the completion of a major project to replace the roof.

Huntington Community Centre, established in 1986, welcomed York's Civic Party, customers, managers and trustees, councillors and former pupils of what had been for nearly 150 years the village primary school to a gathering.

The building' first new roof had just been supplied on time and on budget by Sorrell Construction of York.

David Neal, centre deputy chairman, said hundreds of meetings, classes, courses and parties had been held

there over the past 30 years, and thanked the parish council for its funding of the new roof.

The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr David Taylor, said such centres made a great contribution to the community and cut a birthday cake.
