THE owner of a rescue dog that was seriously injured by a dog whose owners have been jailed has welcomed the sentence and thank those who helped authorities investigate.
Joan Byron was visiting York with her son Stuart, 32, and their eight-year-old Jack Russell crossbreed, Wendy, last October, when she was mauled by a white American bulldog called Milo.
Following a police and city council investigation, the dog was located, and its owners Storm Elliott, 19, and Darren Linsdell, 30, were sentenced last week.
Joan, who lives in the Liverpool area, said: “I believe that the sentences were just and fair given the circumstances. I am pleased that there has been justice for Wendy and those other dogs who were caused so much pain and distress.
“I would like to extend thanks to all those people who played a part in getting that justice particularly City of York Council, York Police and The Press. Special thanks to those on the scene who helped us when Wendy was attacked.
“I must emphasise that those people, who replied to my Facebook appeal to identify the couple, did so without hesitation and demonstrated that there are still good people around, Also I would never hesitate to use Facebook again in times of need it is a useful tool.”
