YORK’S Castle Museum and National Railway Museum are both in the top ten museums in the UK in the Trip Advisor 2016 Traveller’s Choice Awards.

The York Museums Trust, which runs the Castle Museum, said it had entered the top ten for the first time after receiving thousands of positive reviews on the visitor feedback website.

More than 3,500 reviews were in the top category of “Excellent” with more than 1,400 in the “Very Good” category, said a spokesman, adding that York - with two museums in the top ten - was now the second best represented city in the UK after London.

Reyahn King, chief executive of the trust, said: “We are thrilled to be named as one of the top ten museums in the country.

“It would not have been possible without the thousands of positive reviews we have received from visitors who have been to the museum and enjoyed their visit. For that reason it really is a fantastic achievement.”
