A MAN took his own life after checking in to a hotel near his home in York city centre, an inquest was told.
Martin Hargreaves, 47, of Fossgate, was found dead in his bedroom at the Hotel Indigo in Walmgate by a deputy manager, Hayley Bowden, after he had failed to check out on March 26.
The inquest was told that Mr Hargreaves, a computer-aided designer, had seemed agitated and troubled when he checked in.
A GP, Dr Robin Ghosh, said he had seen Mr Hargreaves earlier in the month and detected jaundice and signs of alcohol related liver disease, and arranged for an ultrasound scan, which was carried out days before his death.
The inquest was told that a post mortem examination showed the cause of death was helium asphyxiation. York’s acting senior coroner Jonathan Leach said a note had been left indicating Mr Hargreaves intended to take his own life, and concluded that his death was suicide.
