ASHLEY Cooper, of Cartridge World at Clifton Green, York, has decided to defend his Think Green Business Of The Year title.
His store, along with his branches in Hull Road, York, and a newly-opened store in Front Street, Acomb, are trumpeting the cause of recycling enough for him to believe he can repeat his 2006 achievement in this year's The Press Business Of The Year awards.
Printer cartridge recycling is at the heart of his efforts, and there is a target to reuse 90 per cent of all items that enter the store.
Suppliers' ink bottles are washed and returned to be refilled, and paper used for tests, along with newspapers left for waiting customers, is also recycled.
Ashley has intensified his partnerships with local businesses, schools and other organisations to encourage recycling. In schools he is placing cartridge collection boxes in exchange for contributions towards school funds or charities.
His Cartridge World shops have joined a scheme in which customers are asked to fill in loyalty cards. For each card, a tree is planted.
