THE litany and mysticism of the reasons why we must not leave the money-pit (known as the EU) grows ever more frantic.

Peter Wells (Letters, June 14) listed five points as to why we shouldn’t leave.

1. What is the mystical power over other countries that we would lose should we leave the EU and why do we need it?

2. Europe is alleged to be corrupt and Britain isn’t? Check out the news. Why would staying in change any of this?

3. Why would we want to elect members of the civil service? Just how many people are eligible to be candidates for being head of state? Being a member of the upper house is now created by the Queen on advice from the Prime Minister.

4. “A union of disparate American countries that came together to form the USA”. New one on me. I vaguely remember being taught the USA was formed by the amalgamation of 13 colonies.

5. “If we leave Europe we would lose Scotland and probably Northern Ireland.” Since the collapse of oil prices Scotland would want to stay with us. Northern Ireland? Why would our going it alone see us losing it?

Vote out. It’s the best way.
