REGARDING the letter by N Eastwood about pushchairs on buses (Travel intolerance, May 29).

In the 1960s, when I had my children and needed to take a bus, I had to fold my pushchair and put it in the luggage compartment while struggling to keep the children safe and get them to a seat.

There was no such thing then as a special space for pushchairs and the buses didn't bend down to make easy access!

I'm sorry this lady feels picked on by the elderly, but I've travelled on the number one bus when it had three pushchairs on board (one of them a double buggy), making it difficult for passengers getting on and off the bus. How considerate is this - it's a danger to all passengers.

Let's have some give and take. The pensioners probably see the young mum as uncaring.

The bus company goes out of its way to accommodate mums with buggies, sometimes to the detriment of elderly people.

We must have safety.

Who should move when space is tight on a bus - a young mum with a buggy or a pensioner with a shopping trolley?

Should a pensioner stand to allow a young woman to sit with her buggy?

It's an interesting quandary.
