I wish Rufforth every success in the community's campaign for a cycle path (Villagers call for cycle path, The Press, May 29).
However, if it is ever built, although it will be used by some, they may have a hard time persuading many others of its benefits.
I was one of those who tried for a long time to get a cycle path alongside the A1237 over the railway and river to link Poppleton with Clifton.
I also approved of the cycle path along Millfield Lane linking the village with the ring road and the cycle path over the river.
Why is it that a certain type of cyclist, often Lycra-clad, ignores this provision for their benefit and safety, and prefers to assert his/ her right to use the road, thereby risking life and limb and disrupting motor vehicles.
I do own and use a pedal cycle myself.
