THE council’s decision to allow yet another supermarket to usurp yet another iconic building fills me with sadness.

I had expected better from this council.

As a nation, we are eating ourselves into ill health and an early grave, and York is an even duller place.

Small stores have closed, good stores have moved to soulless out-of-town shopping centres which tourists won’t call at.

The Groves Chapel could have been transformed into a centre for people of all ages to meet for pleasure, comfort, music, plays and to hear speakers...

Must money always win? Must the appeals panel always win?
