The piece about monitoring police efficiency and surveillance (Bobbies under surveillance, The Press, May 30) reminded me of an episode I came across while on holiday in North Wales a few years ago.
She who must be obeyed and I were sheltering from the Welsh summer rain, wandering around Boots in Aberwystwyth, where there was a young lady police constable at the cosmetic counter checking out the wares.
Suddenly her personal radio squawked and I heard her report that she was on patrol by the harbour, a good ten-minutes' walk away - whereupon she quickly stopped what she was doing and rushed out of the shop.
Will the new surveillance system cover similar occurrences in North Yorkshire?
