BARBICAN suffered their first defeat of the season in division one of the York Veterans' Bowls League, losing 24-11 to RI Amateurs.
Shipton beat Holgate 16 1/2 -6 and are level on points with RI Amateurs at the top of the league.
Bootham A' had their fourth win in division two and lead Stamford Bridge A' at the head of the table by two points. The two top teams in division three, Nestlé A' and Acomb B', beat Bishopthorpe B' and Wigginton B' respectively.
In division four, Poppleton B' beat Osbaldwick A' 19-10 and take over at the top from Forum A' who were beaten by Dringhouses A' 25-10.
In the qualifying round for the Maddison and Coronation Cups, only two division one teams qualified for the Maddison Cup - RI Amateurs, the holders, and Bert Keech.
Division one champions Barbican were well beaten by Acomb B' from division three 24-13. Holgate lost to RI Corinthians 17-10 and Shipton lost by the odd shot against Nestlé B'.
