YORK Central's MP has been on a tour of a riverside caravan park fighting back from the floods.
Rachael Maskell was at the York Rowntree Park Caravan Club site by the Ouse on Friday, to see how the site has recovered from the Boxing Day floods and to meet Director General Nick Lomas and Regional Manager Phil Monkman.
The site is prone to flooding, but the two managers showed Ms Maskell how the layout has been redesigned with the flood risk in mind.
She said: "In the aftermath of the Boxing Day floods we want as many visitors as possible to come to York. In January and February footfall in the city centre was down on previous years and it is important that we get the message out that York is open for business. Many of the businesses which were flooded are now reopening and they need customers to visit them and spend money.
"The £2 million per annum which is spent by visitors to this site is a real boost to the local economy and we should not underestimate this."
