A YORK care agency that supports people in their own homes has been rated good by inspectors.

Independent Home Living (York), which is based in Heworth Road, received a strong report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The report said users "spoke highly" of the agency's staff, while inspectors "observed a positive warm and friendly relationship between staff and people being supported".

Independent Home Living was inspected on February 22, with the CQC report published last week.

As well as its overall rating, the agency was marked good in all five areas assessed - whether it was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

The service supports people living in York and the surrounding villages and provides assistance with personal care, domestic help and companionship. At the time of the inspection, it was caring for around 60 people.

The report also stated: "People were supported to take risks and, where any restrictions were in place to support people’s safety, these had been appropriately documented and agreed."

It added: "People we spoke with provided positive feedback regarding the care they received.

"People were involved in discussions regarding their care and signed their agreement to their care records."

Elsewhere, the report said: "Staff demonstrated a clear understanding and gave examples of how privacy and dignity was promoted and maintained."

St Anne's Community Services - Newhaven in Boroughbridge and The Goddards in West Cowick, near Goole, also received good reports and were marked good in all five areas assessed.

Based in Church Lane, Boroughbridge, St Anne's Community Services is a care home that looks after up to five people with learning disabilities.

It was inspected on February 10, with the report published last week.

The report stated: "All interactions we saw put the wishes and choices of people who used the service first and they were included in all conversations.

"People had their health and social care needs assessed and plans of care were developed to guide staff in how to support people."

The Goddards in Goole Road provides accommodation and care for up to 14 people with learning disabilities or an autistic spectrum disorder.

It was inspected on February 2, with the report published last week.

The report stated: "People told us that they felt confident about their safety."

It added: "We observed good interactions between people who lived in the service and staff on the day of the inspection."

Elsewhere, it said: "People’s well-being, privacy, dignity and independence were monitored and respected and staff worked to maintain these wherever possible.

"This ensured people were respected, that they felt satisfied and were enabled to take control of their lives."
