HEATHER Causnett is right in what she says (Last rites for PC, The Press, May 28). Political correctness has gone mad The reason for this can be summed up in one word. Conscience.
Not so long ago, countries in the western world, including Britain, displayed intolerance, arrogance and racism towards people in developing nations.
When I was courting my first girlfriend, I was only allowed to take her out in daylight hours, as it violated the "native woman's protection ordinance", to associate with her between sundown and sun-up.
We could not go to the club (whites only) and I could not buy her a drink (Native Prohibition Act), we could not even have a day out on the local beach as a sign at each end clearly proclaimed "no dogs, no natives".
This nonsense was all abolished in a blaze of glory at independence.
However, it was replaced with a patronising attitude, which continues to this day.
The PC brigade are trying to wash away their sins of the past, but unfortunately have gone overboard the other way.
