THE city of York's mental health support line (I firmly believe that we have had an impact on preventing suicides and hospital admissions, The Press, May 28) is an excellent service.
We know it is a lifeline to many people experiencing mental distress, and we are very pleased that the service has recently been expanded.
To reach the support line, people need to be referred by a health care professional; for those without a referral who are concerned about mental health issues or emotional distress, York and District Mind has an information line.
It operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. At other times, callers can leave a message and we will respond as quickly as possible. The information line number is 01904 647349.
John Burgess, York and District Mind, Stonebow, York.
