ARSONISTS started two straw fires in the same village.

A fire crew from Tadcaster was called to a blaze (pictured) on a field at Westfield Lane, South Milford at 7.33pm on Friday night.

This saw around 20 bales of straw destroyed.

A water bowser from Tadcaster was also sent to the scene and crews used a hosereel and pitchforks to extinguish the fire.

At 11.57am on Saturday, a crew from Selby was again called to Westfield Lane, South Milford where three tonnes of loose straw was on fire.

Officers used a hosereel and pitchforks to extinguish the fire.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said both blazes were believed to be deliberate.
