EAGLES, vultures and owls are set to soar in the skies over York this weekend.

The aerial spectacle is all part of an event in which people have the chance to find out more about nature on their doorstep.

Saturday will see the fifth annual celebration of Hob Moor being designated as a local nature reserve, one of four in York.

From 2pm until 4.30pm there will be games and activities for all the family.

There will also be guided walks around the site, and many stalls from local community groups, including one from the Friends of Hob Moor.

In addition, eagles, owls and vultures will be visible in the sky over the moor, as part of a birds of prey display for all to enjoy.

There will also be a willow weaver, face painter, live band, and lots of arts and crafts for all to have a go at, as well as a juggler and a fun dog show plus much more, and all for free.

The activities will be based to the rear of Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool, off Thanet Road.

There is limited parking, so visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use the bus network.

"This is a great opportunity for people to come out and enjoy their local nature reserve," said Clair Suddaby, local nature reserves officer.
