A PARENT has spoken of his horror that strippers have been invited to a college campus.

Askham Bryan College, which takes students as young as 15, will be hosting the "Ladies Night" on college grounds this Friday.

It is being held in aid of Breast Cancer Care and will include a "striptease" by male dancers.

But parent Nick Stuart, of Acomb, who has a daughter at the college, said he was "appalled" the event was taking place on college grounds.

He said: "I was stuck in traffic going round the Wetherby roundabout when I spotted this big sign advertising a striptease' at the college. I couldn't believe it.

"Askham Bryan has students that are 15, 16 and 17 and although they won't be allowed in, they will still be on campus because students live there.

"That sort of thing attracts undesirables and I don't think it's the sort of thing they should be holding on college grounds. I used to be in the pub trade and I know how out of hand these events can get.

"My daughter has just turned 18, so she would be able to go, but I'm really not very keen on it."

But college spokeswoman Ann Winduss said she did not believe the event would cause any problems.

She said: "There won't be any students on campus on Friday night because it is half term.

"But if there are any concerned parents, we would ask them to contact us so we can reassure them.

"It has been ticketed as an event for over 18s, and we have also checked with the City of York Council to make sure we have all the right licences - they had no objections."

Organisers Cawthorne Enterprises said the show will feature a drag queen host, stand up comedy, an Elvis Presley tribute and male dancers - who will perform the striptease.

An event organised by the same company at Selby Town Hall in April also caused outrage from local people, with town dignitaries describing the strip show as "degrading and demeaning".
