WITH reference to your article on the floods (The Press, January 15), Foxwood was able to respond positively and quickly because we have both an active Residents Association and a successful community centre and were supported by a band of willing volunteers of all ages who gave up their time to help.

It was also fortuitous that we had, along with the council, been working on our Community Emergency Plan which swung into operation.

In 2015 the community centre celebrated 25 years in its current building and this year the Residents Association will celebrate 30 years since its formation.

The work we do is not glamorous. It has been a hard slog to ensure the community covers its bills and remains open in the face of proposed closure by the previous council administration.

We will continue to work hard for the community and ask for people to get involved and help us with our work. We need more people to become trustees.

You don’t have to live in Foxwood. If there are people out there who, after their experience of working as a volunteer during the floods, want to start their own residents association, we will be willing to help.
