AS expected it came but nonetheless it will always for me and many others be tinged with a great deal of sadness at the end of Ben Johnson’s by Donnelleys, its parent company (The Press, January 2).

While good to a point to read of the help given to employees with CVs etc, it’s a great shame it came to closure in the end.

Bernard Johnson was a decent man that cared about his employees in a way you will not see the like of today, as indeed did all the Johnson family involved in the firm then, namely Gilbert, Gillian and the only surviving member now, namely Christine.

You never saw unhappy people in Ben Johnson’s. They usually stayed for life. Nor will you ever hear bad words spoken of times under its running by the Johnson family.

York was very fortunate indeed to have Ben Johnson’s, the home of Europe’s finest printer, in its city.

I shall always remember it with lots of pride.
