AT the age of 63, Hartlepool artist Garry Courtnell is holding his first solo exhibition of landscapes in oils and acrylic at Stone Trough Books in Walmgate, York.
"In view of the quality of his work, it's surprising that this is Garry's inaugural solo painting show, but for some years he was a dedicated photographer and teacher in his native Hartlepool," says bookshop owner George Ramsden.

"He enjoys country walks, and many of his landscapes derive from memories of the countryside. Passers-by have been drawn to the bookshop window by these Cezanne/Van Gogh-like paintings, whose prices range from £250 to £350."
Courtnell's show has been attracting considerable interest from Yorkshire gallery owners and offers of further one-man shows. In the meantime, this enthusiastic response has prompted George to extend the exhibition run beyond Christmas to the New Year.
