DROP by drop, drip by drip, the Tory Government’s financial plan is beginning to fall apart and hitting the most needy in society.
The Department of Health has told City of York Council (The Press, November 19) that it will make a cut of over £500,000 to the city’s public health budget early next year.
This is devastating news to the city and will have a direct impact on the NHS and York Hospital that the Tories informed us, obviously erroneously, was safe in their hands. It is a complete disgrace.
We are informed that in the comprehensive spending review, the Chancellor is more than likely to announce cuts to housing benefit that will hit around 4.8 million households.
These moves will directly affect the less well off and the poor.
Why won’t the Tories admit to the country that they have a wish to abolish the welfare state?
