COPMANTHORPE Primary School has a new head teacher - and you might recognise her.

Jennifer Rogers started her new role at the school at the start of the term in September and was previously the head at Elvington CE Primary School, and before that was a primary school teacher at Stillington Primary School.

Ms Rogers said: "I was ready for a new adventure at a new school.

"Copmanthorpe Primary is a community school so I'm really looking forward to working with the community, the staff and the parents to continue the school's improvements. I have been really impressed by what a great start the children have made to the school year.

"I've been keen to meet the parents, and we've had a few sessions where we got together and discussed what they like about the school and also highlighted any areas for improvement.

"I've also been getting to know the staff and learning the children's names. There are hundreds but I think I'm getting there!"

Copmanthorpe is a school of over 400 pupils, with 14 classes of primary age children from Reception up to 11 year olds. In its most recent Ofsted report in 2014 it was rated 'good'.

Ms Rogers is the first new head teacher at Copmanthorpe for 15 years.

The former head teacher was Judith Rigg, who retired this year. Ms Rigg was head of the school since its creation from the merging of Copmanthorpe Infants and Copmanthorpe Juniors in 2000.
