I HAVE every sympathy with David Soulsby about the damage done to his car (The Press, September 29), but this was an accident waiting to happen ever since the introduction of the bus lane going in the opposite direction.
In my opinion the planners of this introduction should bear some of the blame.
This does not excuse the actions of the irresponsible motorist who caused the damage.
Mr Soulby’s car seems to have been parked in the last parking space in front of the line of terrace houses going out of York.
When the bus lane was introduced a chicane was, in my opinion, put in too near the end of the houses.
One parking space should have been sacrificed to give a safer distance between the last parked car and the chicane. Hopefully, the powers that be will bear this in mind in the near future to avoid a recurrence of such an accident.
