YORK Labour MP Rachael Maskell dropped in at York College's new construction centre.
The York Central MP was at the centre in Sim Balk Lane just days before the first students begin their studies. She was given a tour of the building by principal Alison Birkinshaw and deputy principal Louise Lawrence-Crockford. The centre will accommodate students studying brickwork, joinery, plastering and other related subjects.
Miss Maskell said: “The construction and house building industry is crying out for skilled workers and York’s new construction and skills centre is a modern state of the arts learning facility, which will enable students to gain these much needed skills.
"The new centre will provide students with the options of gaining apprenticeships in a variety of skills as well as gaining qualifications in vocational courses. I should like to offer my very best wishes to the new students who will benefit from what I believe will become a centre of excellence.”
