DETECTIVES are investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman near York.
Officers have today cordoned off a lay by off the A1079 in Dunnington where the incident allegedly took place.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the attack allegedly took place last Friday, but could not confirm when it was reported to police.
He said: "We are investigating a report of a serious sexual assault, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 3, at a layby in the Dunnington area of York.
"Enquiries are ongoing and the victim, a woman in her forties, is being supported by specially trained officers."
