A MAN has been charged in connection with the death of a pet chihuahua.
The 48-year-old man was charged with being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and will appear at York Magistrates Court on July 23.
Police began investigating the incident, which happened off Foxwood Lane, near Rogers Court, shortly after 10.30am on Sunday.
North Yorkshire Police a "pitbull-type dog" had killed the chihuahua. The force said the dog had been seized and an investigation was underway.
One local resident told The Press: "The terrier jumped over a hedge and tore at the other dog. There were people there, terrified and it could easily have jumped over the fence to where the kids were playing. Neighbours told police that one day it could be a child attacked."
