A MOTORIST suffered serious injuries when his car crashed on the A19 on Wednesday.
North Yorkshire Police said the man was driving a silver or light-coloured Honda Type R and believed to be racing with a black Mercedes SLK convertible towards the road surfacing area south of Escrick, at just before 6pm on Wednesday.
A spokesman said the driver lost control of the Honda and crashed into roadside furniture, and was taken to York Hospital for treatment.
Police said the driver of the Mercedes failed to stop at the scene, and urged him to contact them so he can be eliminated from their enquiries.
Officers have also urged anyone who saw the crash or either of the vehicles prior to the crash to contact them on 101, email dean.turner@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
