THREE new cafes are planned in York.
The proposals are outlined in the latest planning applications to City of York Council.
At 14 Low Ousegate, Reeves Chartered Surveyors have applied for permission to convert the building previously occupied by Thompson's travel agency, and more recently by the short-lived A Girl Called Sally shop.
In its application, Reeves said the cafe firm Lucky Days was interested in the site, however the cafe owner Chris Holder said that was not now the case, as the firm had moved into new premises in Parliament Street instead.
Guildhall Planning Panel has objected to the loss of retail space that would result from any conversion.
Elsewhere, there are also plans to turn the old Fashionista shop at 28 Castlegate into a cafe/wine bar. An application has been submitted by Kate Latham of Finsbury Street.
In pre-application discussions, City of York Council planning officer Rachel Tyas said that, in principle, the change of use was in keeping with the aim of promoting the city-centre's vitality.
Finally, at 31 Heslington Road, there are plans to convert the Ebor Taxis office into a cafe and take-away business.
The applicant Joanne Jennison said in her application that she was starting a business called Yummi, to sell "cold sandwiches, cakes and treats" on the premises and to provide home deliveries.
All the applications can be viewed on the City of York Council planning website.
