IT’S a disgrace that people were not asked if they want their area closed for the Tour de Yorkshire. Speaking to people in Whitby and other areas, they did not want the race closing roads.
South Bank becomes a prison, with bus services closed, car journeys ended – and all so cyclists can ride the streets breaking the speed limit.
Even vets in Heworth have to shut. It’s not only people who suffer, animals also suffer.
All of York will suffer, but the council does not give a jot.
They inform us that millions watched the Tour last year on the road side, but all they did was block roads with cars and they spent nothing.
It’s costing thousands to remove speed humps then put them back.
We are told these races bring in millions but those who say this refuse to answer questions.
We are told hotels make thousands, but why should council cash help hotels? If these businesses can’t make a profit on their own, they should close instead of relying on the council.
Only the few benefit while thousands of residents suffer as York comes to a standstill.
As for informing the world about Yorkshire, they already know unless they have been in a coma.
