THE headline acts for this year's Apollo Festival have been announced.

Indie favourites Inspiral Carpets and Space will perform at the one day festival in June, alongside more than 50 acts from around the region.

The Apollo Festival was set up by Stuart Kelly in 2013, and will this year include for the first time a DJ set by Shed Seven's Rick Witter, after he attended last year's event.

Stuart said he wanted the festival, which raises money for St Leonards Hospice and will be held at York Sports Club in Shipton Road on June 27, to be the biggest family-friendly event after the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire next weekend.

He said: "After a fantastic 2014 which saw Apollo reach finalist in Yorkshire's most outstanding festival, me and the team are back with an amazing line up - over 50 acts over an improved five stages. The Apollo Festival is the perfect way to follow from the Tour de Yorkshire - a great family friendly environment relaxed and safe environment.

"It promises to be another amazing day of live music and activities for all ages. The favourites have returned this year, with the kids quarter bringing a full funfair, donkey rides, archery, face painting, balloon making and dance workshops. Alongside this, 1331 bring their amazing cocktails under their new stage, which will be playing the best Northern Soul and Funk all day."

Tickets cost £15 for adults and are available from York Sports Club, 1331 in Grape Lane, The Spread Eagle in Walmgate, The Ainsty in Boroughbridge Road, or at apollofestival.co.uk
