FIREFIGHTERS were called to a York river last night following reports that a man had gone in the water.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from York, Acomb and Huntington went to the Foss near Navigation Road just before midnight, taking their rescue boat with them.
A spokesman said police had received a report from someone saying they had seen or heard a man going in to the river but it was believed he had subsequently been found safe at his home.
He said the boat was launched onto the water to check the banks and ensure that a second person had not also gone in.
