I'VE just read that the Hopgrove roundabout scheme is to be delayed (Brakes are put on roundabouts plan, March 21).
They claim the proposed alterations will improve safety, but will they do anything to improve the flow of traffic that is regularly at a standstill, especially in the summer? In my opinion, the roundabout should be scrapped and a flyover with sliproads should be constructed.
This design would help keep the A64 through traffic moving while allowing access for the traffic from the northern ring road (A1237).
In the summer months, with extra traffic going to the coast, these two roundabouts turn into a major bottleneck and, on this basis alone, they deserve a more sensible redevelopment.
