THE Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will be feeling the cold round his neck, I fear, for quite a while longer.
It is hard to believe it’s seven years since he caused a stir by cutting his dog collar into shreds live on the BBC Andrew Marr programme in December 2007, in protest at Africa’s oldest despot President Robert Mugabe’s rule, corruption and brutal intimidation of Anglicans in Zimbabwe.
Despite Mugabe’s racism, financial ruin, murders and corruption, he plans on spending $1 million dollars celebrating his 91st birthday with 20,000 guests, whilst many of his people starve.
To cap it all a local farmer has obscenely donated wild animals to be served at the lavish feast – elephants, buffalos, sable antelopes, impalas and a lion.
How sad for the black Africans that this former British colony has descended into complete chaos since white rule ended, when it was thought that black involvement would lead to a new beginning for them?
How can this arrogant crook be chairman of the 54 nation African Union and 15 nation Southern African Development Community? Perhaps they all have something in common?
Depressingly, Zimbabwe’s decline will likely continue as it looks certain that Mugabe’s wife will take overr, thus creating a dynasty.
