CAMPAIGNERS have taken to York city centre today to petition for greater support of the NHS.
The petition calls on politicians standing in May’s general election, to commit to protect the NHS from privatisation and to make sure it has the funding it needs.
The gathering in Parliament Street was coordinated by campaign group 38 Degrees as part of a day of action across the UK to stand against what has been called a creeping privatisation of the health system.
Jan Gascoigne, 68, a retired social worker from Acomb, said: "I have bever demonstrated or petitioned in my life but I feel so strongly I'm here today. I don't like the way the NHS is being steered. Little bits are being privatised by stealth.
"Caring should not be for profit."
