BURGLARS stole a BMW and thousands of pounds worth of bikes, clothes and electricals from a home in Harrogate last week.

Police are appealing for information after the thefts from a house on Knaresborough Road, near the junction of Kingsley Road, between 7.30am on Wednesday, February 18 and 2pm the following day.

The offenders got in by breaking a window and taking a set of keys. Police say they would have needed vehicle to transport the stolen items , and now want to hear from anyone who saw or heard suspicious vehicles or people in the area, or saw suspicious activity before the burglary.

They would also like to hear from anyone who saw the blue BMW Z4 Coupe travelling in the area, or knows where it is now.

Detective Constable Quita Passmore urged people to take as many security measures as possible.

She said: “Home owners can take some simple steps to help prevent opportunist criminals from helping themselves to your property. Please always hide your valuables out of sight, including your keys, away from windows and prying eyes.

“Please also enable your pin-lock if you have a smartphone, tablet or other mobile device and consider installing location software such as Find My iPhone to ensure that you can wipe your data and locate your devices if necessary.

“It is also worth keeping records and photographs of valuable and electrical items including serial numbers, IMEI numbers and descriptions including any unique features.”

Some of the items were later found in a hedgerow at the junction with Kinglsey Drive and Birstwith Road. Officers are also appealing to anyone in this area who may have seen any suspicious people, vehicles or activity around the time of the burglary.
