FIREWORKS lit up the Eye of York for the finale of the annual Jorvik Viking Festival.
Hundreds of residents, tourists and families gathered to watch the spectacular show on Saturday, which involved lights, fireworks and live battles, as the story from last year’s festival continued.
The 2014 finale saw Ragnarok, the Viking apocalypse, while this year’s event was entitled The Brave New World, and saw warriors, gods and monsters welcome the creation of the nine realms of Nordic legend.
The festival event has run throughout half-term, and seen thousands of visitors to the city take part in craft and combat workshops, strong-man competitions, markets and storytelling.
A spokeswoman for the festival organisers said: “We’ve been very pleased to have been able to combine our regular favourite events with new performances, new research and new events. Our finale event, telling the story of the creation according to Norse mythology was well received and we’ve had some fantastic comments.”
No quarter is given as the two sides clash during the battle which provided the centrepiece of the Viking Festival finale
