NOTHING divides motorists like speed humps. They save lives, we’re told, but humps are just that and driving over them is never a pleasurable experience – even at 20mph.
Fiona Evans and Anneliese Emmans Dean know this better than most. Both have chronic back problems and say they’re like torture devices.
For 20 years Anneliese has campaigned to have them removed, but a traffic-calming review by City of York Council has now concluded that speed humps are the best way to slow down traffic.
We fully understand how disappointed these women will be, but local authorities have a duty to strive for the most effective methods to tackle speeding traffic. As is often the case, the council is damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
