THE A64 is rarely out of the headlines. Recently a spate of accidents kept it in the news and the blackspot at Bilbrough Top is a regular topic. But now the road is being discussed for a more unusual reason – rubbish.
Take a look at the picture on page seven and we think you will agree it shows an appalling, not to say incomprehensible, display of laziness and lack of consideration.
Now highways chiefs say they will have to close a lane to clear up the scores of bags of refuse that were fly-tipped more than a month ago at a lay-by on the westbound carriageway.
The A64 is York’s main arterial road and it will cost time and money to put things right. Then there is the inconvenience and delay the clean-up will cause motorists.
We can only hope those who are responsible for this awful mess feel downright ashamed of themselves. If anyone knows who it was, please do us all a favour and let the authorities know where they live.
