MY, how we are regularly presented with further proof that the powers that be disregard common sense when it comes to traffic management.
I’m talking about the one-way closure of Nunnery Lane due to work on gas pipes. Firstly, there are no adjustments to traffic light sequences to help things along, which is something we’ve all come to expect. But the really aggravating thing is the duration of the closure – three weeks.
This is with no work being carried out on evenings or weekends. Meanwhile, we have an extra portion of gridlock.
This road is an essential part of the inner ring road and should be worked on 24/7 until repairs are complete. The council should have insisted on this, and the work could have been finished in five working days. It doesn’t need a “cross-party congestion commission”to work that out.
