BRITAIN’S information watchdog has had to order City of York Council to respond to a resident’s request for information, after hearing it had failed to meet its legal obligations.

The council received a request last January under the Freedom of Information Act, seeking details about a 2011 trip to South Korea by chief executive Kersten England.

Officials released some information, but although they promised more information in June, this was never forthcoming.

The resident contacted the Information Commissioner’s Office in August and the ICO wrote to the council in September, but in a written decision notice the ICO said the council had not responded. It said the council must disclose the information requested or issue a formal refusal.

A council spokeswoman told The Press the council had now provided the information.

Update: The council has said today [Friday] that it has sent this information to the Information Commissioner's Office. It also claims to have sent the information to the resident, however the resident says they have not received it.
