A WOMAN from the York area has been spoken to by police after making an insensitive social media post about the Glasgow bin lorry tragedy.
The woman posted a comment on Facebook on Tuesday, referring to the lorry picking up "trash".
Six people were killed in Glasgow city centre on Monday, when an out-of-control bin lorry crashed into a number of pedestrians. Ten others were injured.
A tweet by North Yorkshire Police today
Since the comment was posted on the social network, dozens of people have joined a group calling for the woman to be "taught a lesson", referring to her as "disgusting and vile", and calling for her to be removed from facebook and punished by police.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed today they had been made aware of "an offensive comment" on social media and were looking into the matter to assist Police Scotland with their inquiries.
Tonight, North Yorkshire Police said the woman had been spoken to by officers about her actions, but it is understood the matter will not be taken further.
Earlier this week, a teenager from Sunderland was arrested on suspicion of making a malicious communication and released on bail for making inappropriate comments about the tragedy on his Facebook page. He later apologised for his comments.
