A CHARITY auction organised by former York City star Andy McMillan has raised £2,500 for the appeal in memory of York schoolboy Oscar Hughes.

Andy, who now manages the club's academy, staged the auction- compered by Match of the Day commentator Guy Mowbray - during a three-course meal at Sandburn Hall, Flaxton, earlier this month.

The money will benefit a charity being set up by Marie Hughes of Dunnington, the mother of nine-year-old Oscar who died from a brain tumour earlier this year.

The charity will fund research into childhood tumours, with the aim of preventing so many children dying and also developing treatments with less severe side effects.

Andy said the whole event raised a total of just over £7,000, with about £4,500 going to the academy: "We are hoping to make it an annual event and support a different charity every year.," he added.
