PUPILS at Dringhouses Primary School held a Victory Tea to mark the end of a learning project on York during the Second World War.

Local residents were invited to join the Key Stage 2 pupils in years three to six for an afternoon of nostalgia. The children dressed in 1940s costume, and entertained their guests with activities to show what they had learnt about life in York during the war.

As well as a performance of wartime songs such as Run Rabbit and Pack Up Your Troubles, the children sang Christmas songs and shared work from their learning project.

They also read excerpts from the school’s original log book from the 1930-1945 period, which gave a fascinating insight into everyday life in wartime Dringhouses. In true British style, guests enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

Assistant head teacher Elkie Stea said: “The children have worked incredibly hard on this term’s topic and the ‘Victory Tea’ is a fantastic opportunity for them to celebrate their learning and share their enthusiasm for the project with the school community. It promises to be a moving and reflective occasion”.
