ONE of Ilkley's latest in their 'Origins' series of beers inspired by different cultural and geographic traditions, Rye N' Dry is a traditional Bavarian Roggenbier.

Think of a traditional German Weizenbok but brewed with rye instead of wheat, combined with the brewers' own interpretation of American rye whisky in beer format.

Pouring a beautifully clear (probably filtered) mahogany shot through with amber highlights, there's a very brief appearance from a lively beige head. The aroma is sweet, like a fresh, malty walnut and date loaf. A touch of ground coffee and some allspice atop peppery treacle make for a very Autumnal first impression.

To begin, this is a very smooth beer; medium to full bodied and sweet. Starting out with roasted chestnuts and treacle toffee, the palate is refreshed by a rising acidity that comes paired with nutty burnt chocolate and tobacco.

A light lemony, bitter herb hop finish and a serving of buttery greens come out in the finish, making this a very full flavoured and easy drinking Autumn ale.
